Gentle Pediatric Care

Pediatric Chiropractic

We want to see the Lethbridge community become one of the healthiest there is!

We feel that one of the most effective ways to achieve this health transformation is to focus on the next generation because healthy kids grow up to be healthy adults.

Often times, misalignment or malfunction of the spine can occur sooner than we may think. Intrauterine constraint, abnormal positioning, and spinal distress from the delivery process can all lead to spinal subluxation (misalignment or malfunction). Positioning during pregnancy, or physical stress during the birth process are often the earliest physical stressors that occur to the body, yet they tend to be the most ignored.

Pediatric Chiropractic & Growth

As your little one grows from newborn to baby to toddler, not only are they getting stronger, becoming more upright, and more mobile, but in doing all of that, they are also still developing some of their proper spinal curvatures. We’re born with all of our spinal bones, but the natural curvatures in the neck and lower back develop as we learn to hold our head up, sit, crawl, stand, and walk.

As you know, learning new skills takes practice, so often along the way, bumps and bruises can occur. Although some are more minor than others, everyday bumps, slips, and falls also have an effect on children’s developing spines and nervous systems. If spinal misalignment or dysfunction occurs in the first few months or years of life, it is typically easier and simpler to correct the earlier you have it evaluated!

Kids tend to be highly adaptable and quite resilient, however if we rely on those qualities to cover up small health issues early on, often those issues will become a much larger (and likely more painful) problem later in life. Many families choose to use chiropractic care for their kids in order to compliment a preventative lifestyle, where they can instead use that natural resiliency to bounce back and correct things quickly rather than cover a problem up.

Pediatric adjustments are very gentle. They can be performed using no more than the pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a peach.

We believe that your baby or child should have the opportunity to have their spine and nervous system checked by a pediatric chiropractor as early as possible. A tremendous amount of neurological development occurs during the infant and childhood years, so it’s important to ensure they have every opportunity to maximize nerve function during these critical periods.

Chiropractic is not designed to, nor do we intend to treat any specific condition; chiropractors simply locate and correct interferences to the nervous system, so that the body is allowed to express health freely!

Pediatric Chiropractic FAQ

What to Expect at Your Chiropractic Visit

How do I know if my child should see a chiropractor?

If you are not sure, there is no harm in having your child evaluated. Our doctors always start with a consultation and then an evaluation to determine if, where, and when any gentle adjustments need to be made! If at any time you or your child comes in and findings indicate that no adjustment is necessary, then no adjustment will be made.
It is not always possible to tell without careful analysis if there is underlying spinal malfunction, however some of the more outward signs that you may recognize in your child are:
-torticollis or consistent head tilt to one side
-restricted motion (perhaps your baby will not turn their head to one side)
-back arching or extreme stiffness (sometimes even making it difficult to lay them down)
-dragging a hip or leg when crawling
-walking or standing with one foot flared or turned out
-persistent growing pains
-one shoulder sitting higher than the other
-slouching posture or other postural distortions
-involvement in a car accident or a playground or sports injury
